Welcome to hotel cortijo el Esparragal

Welcome to El Esparragal.

Cortijo El Esparragal (country estate) is located along the Ruta de la Plata (former Roman highway known as the Silver Route), where even today, there are numerous Roman remains scattered throughout the farm’s 2,800 hectares.

The main building dates back to 1615, when it was a Hieronymite Monastery until 1850. At that time, the Vázquez Family took over the estate. In the mid-20th Century, the farm was acquired by the Marquis Casa Oriol, who modernized farm management and diversified its productive areas.

Today, Cortijo El Esparragal is an enormous, 2800-hectare (6919-acre) estate that produces a variety of both irrigated and dry land cash crops.  Likewise, the farm breeds Retinta and Friesians cattle and has a prestigious PRE (Spanish Horse) stud farm. There are also 700 hectares (1730 acres) dedicated to large and small game hunting.

The actual Cortijo (farm buildings) has been fully restored to respect traditional construction and style while at the same time, house a hotel, restaurant, catering service, conference and reception halls. Likewise, there are gardens, a swimming pool, a bullring, stables, natural and cultural routes, and a never-ending selection of leisure and adventure activities in direct contact with nature, tradition and history.

We would be delighted to see you at El Esparragal.
